Planning the Festival of Carnivals 2012!

 

 

Calling all those involved in Carnival Clubs and Committees, Festival organisers, youth and community leaders, artists and practitioners, Local Authority personnel and teachers interested in carnival engagement …….

 

Dorset County Council and partners (including the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Team, Weymouth and Portland Partnership and Arts Council England) are holding a special introductory planning event on Saturday 28 November to hear and share thoughts, capture ideas and make initial plans for the development of a fantastic Jurassic Coast Festival of Carnivals extravaganza building to 2012. The project will encompass the Jurassic Coast area - East Devon, Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth.

1.45 – 2pm Case Study – Three Cities Create and Connect collaborative carnival project focusing on local, community collaboration and linking to a potential Dorset circuit (David)

 

2pm – 2.20 Case Study – Thematic carnival, artistic inspiration and international exchange (Mandinga, Charles Beauchamp)

 

2.20 – 2.40 Case Study – Participation through carnival/links to education and learning - The Isle of Wight model (Chris Slann/Frankie Goldspink)

 

2.40-3pm Possible whole group percussion workshop led by Sam Alexander

 

3.pm – 3.45 Break-out with coffee/tea available – 4 groups to explore perceived priorities and next steps (how to shape the ideas and opportunities, roles people want to play, exploring collaboration)

 

3.45 – 4.05 pm return and feedback
