The first official meeting of Strata was on the 8th of February 2006 so we're celebrating our fourth birthday at the AGM and meeting on 10th March at the Black swan in Swanage.   For more information about Strata's early days...... Although the first meeting was in February, the history goes back further to  the previous summer when a large group of us assembled in the garden of the Red Lion after a inconclusive meeting at the Town Hall about the Jurassic Coast Project.  Purbeck artists culdn't see how the project was going to benefit them.  This fear was compounded some time later when Purbeck District Council produced its first Cultural Strategy with no mention of the Arts at all.  We felt that if something was going to be done to help the arts in Purbeck we would have to do it ourselves.  Part of this meeting was a group of painters who called themselves Strata and they offered the name to the whole new movement.  Early rantings can be found on cultureswanage.blogspot.com
